DVL is an ESOP. An Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) is is an employee-owner program that provides a company's workforce with an ownership interest in the company. Several features make ESOPs unique as compared to other employee benefit plans. First, only an ESOP is required by law to invest primarily in the securities of the sponsoring employer. Second, an ESOP is unique among qualified employee benefit plans in its ability to borrow money. As a result, "leveraged ESOPs" may be used as a technique of corporate finance. On Wednesday, May 28, 2019 employee owners at DVL's Bristol headquarters were honored to meet with Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) to talk about the importance of employee ownership through employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs). During the meeting, the employee owners thanked Rep. Fitzpatrick for recently co-sponsoring H.R. 2258 in the House, pro-ESOP bill. During the visit, Rep. Fitzpatrick presented Hill with a USA Flag and an accompanying placard.
On May 22, 2019, at the ESOP Association's national conference in Washington DC, DVL Group received an Annual Award for Communications Excellence (AACE) in the category of Employee Ownership Marketing. In addition, DVL was the runner up in the Printed Materials and Total Communications categories. On Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 in Hershey, PA, DVL Group was named "ESOP Company Of The Year" at the ESOP Multi-State Conference. DVL was awarded this recognition because of the commitment that they have shown to employee ownership. This award also put them in the running for the National ESOP Association's Company of the Year Award in May 2019.
